This article talks about how men often suffers from depression and stress in modern society and their incapability to seek help.
Coming form a different culture, I see how rigid it is for men in north American to hold their self-image. I feel sad every time I see a man have to prove his masculinity or manliness, where many of them do it by humiliating or bulling others. The development of this manhood have moved men to be less flexible about being who they could be and really damage their connection with emotions. It makes most men become the victim of their emotions and are incapable of talking about their emotional difficulties like depression and anxiety. Many of them suffer quietly and carry their pain to the end of their lives.
I have many male clients who are brave enough to face their depression and anxiety. They come to deal with their emotional difficulties via counselling or coaching. They often are very grateful to have the opportunity of learning how to being a “man” from a more holistic point of view. They get to open up the possibility to be a man they really want to be.
